Why Valemount

The Perfect Women's Mountain Bike Road Trip

Valemount is one of BC's best-kept secrets, a jaw-dropping mountain town tucked between the Rockies, Cariboos, and Monashees with world-class trails to match. We've been hosting this retreat for five years, and every year women leave saying it's the best weekend of their summer.

Whether you're still building confidence on green and blue trails and want to level up your skills, or you're charging blues and blacks and looking to push further, this retreat is built around progression, community, and having an absolute blast. You'll ride with certified coaches who genuinely care about your riding, shuttle up for maximum descents, and end each evening with a group of women who just get it. Accommodation arrangements are flexible so you can set up your stay in whatever way works best for you.

Women leave this weekend as stronger riders. Whether it's finally riding that feature that's been in your head all season, discovering you can hold a line you never thought possible, or simply riding with more confidence and flow, the progression over three days is real. Come ready to push yourself and you will surprise yourself.

Food & Meals

Fuelling the Ride

Here's what to expect for meals over the weekend:

🍽️ Friday group dinner and snacks are included. All other meals are self-catered.

Breakfasts and dinners are self-catered. If you choose to stay in the group log cabins, they have full kitchens with large fridges and everything you need to cook. Everyone brings their own groceries and makes their own meals. If you're staying elsewhere in Valemount, there are great local restaurants and cafes to explore throughout the weekend.

Lunches are eaten at the trailhead. Most riders pack a bag lunch and bring it along, or swing by one of the local cafes in town to grab a wrap or sandwich on the way out.

Grocery tip: There is one grocery store in Valemount with good basics, but limited specialty items. If you have dietary restrictions, stock up in a larger centre before you arrive.

What to Bring

Gear & Equipment

We don't offer rentals through the retreat, but District Bike Shop in Valemount has rental bikes available in town. A great option if you don't want to travel with your bike. We recommend booking ahead.

Your Bike

  • Full suspension bike strongly recommended — the trails here reward a bike that can handle the terrain
  • 27.5" or 29" wheels — both work great
  • Bike in good mechanical condition — brakes, gears, and tires all checked before you leave home

Safety & Protection

  • Helmet required — full face helmet is encouraged but not required
  • Gloves — highly recommended for all riders
  • Knee pads — recommended, especially for the intermediate/advanced group
  • Any other protective gear you feel comfortable in — shin guards, elbow pads, hip pads all welcome

Clothing & Day Pack

  • Layers — Valemount mornings can be cool even in July
  • Rain jacket — we ride rain or shine (see below)
  • Hydration pack or water bottles — carry plenty of water
  • Packed lunch and snacks for trail days
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses, bug spray
  • Small first aid kit and any personal medications
🌧️ We ride rain or shine. Valemount trails drain beautifully and wet riding can be incredibly fun. Come prepared for BC mountain weather and you'll have a blast no matter what.

Peace of Mind

You're in Good Hands

We take safety seriously so you can focus on riding with confidence.

🩺

All coaches hold current first aid certification and are trained to handle trail incidents quickly and calmly.

🏥

Emergency Care in Town

Valemount has an emergency care centre in town. Medical help is never far away if needed.

📶

Full Cell Coverage

Full cell service throughout town, and almost the entire bike park has coverage. You're never truly off the grid.

👥

Small Groups, Personal Coaching

We ride in small groups based on ability, typically with a 1:6 coach-to-rider ratio. Your coach knows your riding well and can give you real, focused feedback all weekend.

The Community

You'll Leave a Stronger Rider

The progression women experience over three days is one of the things they talk about most. Certified coaches who know what they're doing, small groups, and trails that challenge you in exactly the right way add up to real improvement, fast.

The typical age range is 30 to 65, and the common thread isn't skill level. It's a love of the outdoors, a willingness to push yourself, and a good sense of humour about wipe-outs. Many women come back year after year because of how much they gain each time. And a lot of women come alone and leave with riding partners and friends that last well beyond the weekend.

💚 Coming alone? You're not unusual at all. We keep the group small and the vibe welcoming. By Friday evening you'll feel completely at home and ready to ride.

Frequently Asked Questions

We split into multiple small groups based on ability, typically around one coach for every 6 riders. Groups range from those still building confidence on green and blue trails all the way to riders pushing into black terrain. If you can ride a bike on dirt trails and want to get better, you belong here.

Group cabin accommodations are optional and priced separately: shared rooms from CA$250/person (two beds, your own bed) and private rooms at CA$350/person. You are also welcome to arrange your own accommodations in Valemount.

Absolutely. And honestly, it's one of the best ways to do this retreat. A huge number of our attendees come solo every year. The small group format (max 22) means you'll know everyone within the first evening.
Friday night's welcome group dinner and snacks are included in the retreat fee. All other meals are self-catered. If you're staying in the group cabins, they have full kitchens and large fridges. Not at all. Staying in the group cabins is completely optional. Valemount has a range of accommodation options and you are welcome to book wherever works best for you.
