This Is For Her

A mom. A business owner. Someone who's been quietly holding everything together for so long she's stopped asking what she actually wants.

She's capable of so much. She's also exhausted by all of it. Somewhere along the way, the version of herself that craved adventure got carefully, quietly set aside.

She keeps saying someday. She means it. She just never goes.

Wild & Slow is built for her. For you.

Why This Retreat

Real adventure. Real rest.
Real women who get it.

Wild & Slow isn't a yoga retreat that happens to be in Costa Rica, and it isn't an extreme expedition either. It's the middle place: canyoning and whitewater rafting alongside slow mornings, hands-on cultural workshops, and a group small enough that you'll actually know everyone's name by day two.

You'll move your body. You'll try things you've never tried. And you'll come home rested in a way that has nothing to do with how many hours you slept.

What Changes

You won't just go on a trip.
You'll come back different.

What You Leave Behind

The weight of it all

The mental load. The schedule. The low hum of what still needs doing and who still needs you. You set it down at the airport and you don't pick it back up until you decide to.

What You Discover

That you're still her

That you're capable of hard things, new things, uncomfortable things. That your body is strong and your spirit is hungry, and you don't need anyone's permission to take up space.

What You Come Home With

Quiet confidence

A full heart. A clearer sense of yourself. A group of women who truly get it. And the knowledge that when the moment came, you said yes to yourself.

The Part Nobody Says Out Loud

Yes, they'll be fine without you.

Right now there's a voice telling you eight days is too long. That it's too much money to spend on yourself. That you'll go once things settle down, once the kids are older, once work is quieter, once you've earned it.

Here's the truth: things don't settle down. And you've already earned it, years ago.

Your family will manage. Your work will keep. The groceries will get bought and the schedules will get sorted, because the people around you are more capable than the mental load lets you believe. What won't keep is this: the version of you that's still waiting for her turn.

Taking one week in a whole year isn't selfish. It's the minimum. And the women who come home from this retreat don't come home with less to give, they come home with more.

The Experience

Adventurous enough to wake you up.
Slow enough to let you land.

Each day is full but never rushed. Mild-to-moderate activity, no extreme fitness required, just willingness. Here's what the week actually looks like.

Day 1 · Tue Jan 19Arrival

Welcome to Lumira

Fly into San José, then settle in on the afternoon shuttle up into the mountains of Turrialba. Arrive at Lumira Retreat Centre by early evening for a welcome dinner and your first night among the women you'll share this whole week with.

Day 2 · Wed Jan 20Ground & Craft

Survival skills & natural dyeing

Morning yoga to start slow, then a hands-on survival skills workshop, fire, shelter, first aid, led by a local guide who's done this his whole life. In the afternoon, a natural fabric dyeing workshop using plants harvested right on the property. You'll leave with a piece you made yourself.

Day 3 · Thu Jan 21Canyoning & Coffee

Rappel a waterfall, then slow down over coffee

A morning of canyoning and zip-lining through the cloud forest, real adrenaline, real views. Then an afternoon coffee tour at a working farm, where the day's pace drops all the way down.

Day 4 · Fri Jan 22Bike & Estate

Easy riding, historic lunch

A relaxed mountain bike ride through CATIE's tropical research grounds, flat terrain, no experience required, followed by a traditional Costa Rican lunch at a beautifully restored 19th-century sugar estate. Afternoon free to swim, nap, or just look at the view.

Day 5 · Sat Jan 23Culture Day

Tea, tradition, and dancing

Start with a herb garden tour and make-your-own tea. Then a hands-on traditional cooking class, learning tamal de hoja the way it's been made for generations, followed by a banana fiber craft workshop. The night ends with a Costa Rican folk dance performance you'll be invited to join.

Day 6 · Sun Jan 24Whitewater & Fire

Rafting, pizza, bonfire

A morning of whitewater rafting on the Pejibaye River. Back at Lumira by afternoon for a pizza-making night in their wood-fired oven, then a bonfire under some of the clearest skies you'll ever see.

Day 7 · Mon Jan 25Descent

Back toward San José

A slower travel day back down toward the capital, with a stop along the way, overnight at a boutique hotel near the airport before your flight home.

Day 8 · Tue Jan 26Home

Fly home, different

You'll land changed. Not because of what you did, but because of what you finally let yourself have.

Your Guides

Held by women who've done this for a decade.

Wild & Slow isn't run by a travel company. It's held, personally, by the two co-founders of Adventuring Into Life, who've spent ten years building spaces where women discover what they're capable of in the outdoors.

Andrea Hamer

Co-Founder · Retreat Lead

A lifelong athlete, certified outdoor coach, and mom, Andrea founded Adventuring Into Life after watching too many women set their adventurous selves aside. She has seen what happens when you take a woman out of her daily life and put her somewhere wild and beautiful: she remembers herself. Wild & Slow is built from that knowing.

Stacey Gagnon

Co-Founder · Community & Connection

Stacey is the heart of every group AIL brings together. A coach and connector by nature, she's the reason women who arrive as strangers leave as lifelong friends. She'll be with you the whole week, making sure every woman feels seen, supported, and part of something from the very first dinner.

Questions

Before you say yes.

Do I need to be really fit for this?

No. Activities are mild to moderate, canyoning and rafting are guided and beginner-friendly, and the bike ride at CATIE is flat and easy. What you need is willingness, not a training regimen.

I'm coming solo. Is that normal?

It's the norm, not the exception. Most women who join Wild & Slow come on their own, and by day two you won't remember what it felt like not to know everyone. If you'd rather have your own space at night, a private room is available for a small supplement.

What if the retreat doesn't fill up?

This retreat runs with a minimum of 8 women. If we're close to the date and haven't hit that number, you'll be notified well in advance with options, never a last-minute surprise.

What's the payment schedule?

A $500 CAD deposit reserves your spot and includes a short screening call. The remaining balance is due December 20, 2026 (30 days before departure). A monthly payment plan is available at no extra cost, just ask when you book.

What's the cancellation policy?

Your $500 CAD deposit is non-refundable but transferable to another guest up to 14 days before the retreat. Cancel 90+ days before departure and your balance is fully refunded (or held as full credit toward a future program). 60–89 days out: 25% refund or 50% credit of the balance. Under 60 days: no refund, 25% credit. This is why travel insurance is required, it protects you if something unexpected comes up.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes, travel insurance covering trip cancellation, medical emergencies, and travel disruption is required for all guests. It's inexpensive relative to the trip and protects your full investment if life happens.

When should I book my flights?

Plan to land in San José (SJO) by 2:00pm on January 19, our group shuttle to Lumira leaves at 3:30pm. For the trip home, book any departure on January 26; you'll stay at a hotel near the airport the night before, so even early flights work.

I can't imagine being away for 8 days. Is it too long?

That feeling is exactly why this retreat exists. Eight days is long enough to actually unwind, not just catch your breath, and everything at home will keep. Most guests tell us the trip felt shorter than they expected and that the hardest part was deciding to come, not being away.

What isn't included?

Your flights to and from Costa Rica, travel insurance, personal spending money, and gratuities. Everything else, lodging, meals, activities, workshops, and ground transportation within Costa Rica, is covered.

Can I bring a friend?

Absolutely. Let Andrea know when you reserve and we'll do our best to room you together if you'd like to share.

You've been saying someday for long enough.

Twelve spots. One week in the mountains of Costa Rica. A version of yourself waiting to be remembered.
